The image you see here might lead you to believe that the child in the picture has been made "glad" and secure thanks to the U.S. troop presence in Iraq. However, it's actually a big lie, a doctored photo featuring people with different faces put on other peoples' bodies, perpetrated by workers of Roger Hughes, Republican party chairman and owner of the IowaPresidentialWatch.com web site which spent the recent U.S. presidential election calling Democratic candidate John Kerry a habitual liar and comparing him to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

A US Iraqi businessman, accused of pocketing millions of dollars through the UN oil-for-food program with Iraq, pleaded guilty yesterday to acting as an illegal agent of Saddam Hussein's government. American conservative pundits widely criticized the UN's effectiveness based on the oil-for-food scandal, even though ironically, many Americans and American interests are now being shown to have profited in the illegal operation.

McDonald's considering gassing instead of electrocuting chikens

[Junk Food]
In response to issues raised by activist groups, McDonald's is entertaining the idea of gassing chickens to death for food products, as opposed to their current method where they hang the chickens upside down by their feet on a conveyor and run them through a vat of electrified liquid. At least that's more humane than my idea of hooking up a plasma TV in the coop and making the chickens watch Jim Carrey movies.

Yesterday, Bush travelled through Iowa hawking his new tax plan. He dragged out Mike and Sharla Hintz, a couple from Clive with four children, whom he said benefited from his tax plan. Mike Hintz, Bush's role model for the day, and a First Assembly of God youth pastor said he supports Bush's Values.

Today, the pastor and Bush role model was fired from his church and arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of at least one underage female in the church youth group.

You gotta love the people the President hangs out with.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R., Iowa) said he was disappointed but not surprised by the WTO ruling. He criticized how the law was implemented - by being inserted in an appropriations bill instead of going through the authorizing committee process. But overwhelming Senate support for the Byrd amendment makes changes unlikely.

Wal-Mart endorses unionization... in China

In what many consider to be brilliantly evil, Wal-Mart has announced just as the holiday shopping season starts, that they're supporting "unionization" of their stores in China. This is particularly delicious as the company has maintained an intensely anti-union stance in North America, even going so far as many speculate, in closing stores that organize unions. However, Chinese unions are apparently nothing like westerners versions of unions and the move is considered more ceremonial than any indication of a change in the company's anti-union stance.

Government changes rules to protect their own if indicted

House of Representatives Majority Leader, Tom DeLay may be facing indictment in Texas. This has prompted the honorable Republican leadership to rewrite the rules to help Delay maintain his post and power in the wake of an investigation into his involvement in criminal activities. Your government at work.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said last night: "If they make this rules change, Republicans will confirm yet again that they simply do not care if their leaders are ethical. If Republicans believe that an indicted member should be allowed to hold a top leadership position in the House of Representatives, their arrogance is astonishing."

"A researcher who publicly questioned the safety of Pfizer Inc.'s painkiller Bextra was removed from a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel that will review it and similar products next year," reported the Wall Street Journal. Professor Curt Furberg said the FDA told him his removal was because "he was quoted in the New York Times as saying Bextra appeared similar to Vioxx and that Pfizer sought to suppress that information." Furbert insists his remarks were "evidence-based." Merck recalled its painkiller Vioxx, due an increased risk of heart attacks for users, and the company is under investigation by the Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission.

[Media]
The Washington Post's Gene Weingarten received a press release one day from a guy calling himself "Mr. PR" hawking a book on social networking that promises to make anyone famous. Normally, these self-aggrandizing goofballs are ignored by the mainstream media (as competition IMO) but this columnist decided to grant an interview and give the guy a dose of his own "PR medicine". The irony is that in the process, we are treated to a delicious sample of how media spin works and what happens when you annoy a writer for major media, with a dose of ego wars, exaggerated for emphasis and clarity.

It's always nice to see "the public" rallying for change in government. The latest perverse mutation of this notion is in the form of the Consumer Alliance for Affordable Natural Gas, the brainchild of "CONsumers" such as Dupont, Dow Chemical and the American Chemistry Council, who endeavor to remove regulatory restrictions on oil & gas drilling and access to the Arctic Wildlife Refuge.

"As part of the Bush administration's effort to boost the nuclear power industry, physics students at Langley High School will become the first in the country to use a new curriculum from the U.S. Department of Energy that promotes nuclear energy," reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Federal energy officials said last week they hope the new curriculum will encourage more students to pursue careers in nuclear engineering." The program, called "The Harnessed Atom: a new curriculum in nuclear science and technology," could be expanded across the country "if it succeeds at Langley." Federal officials "are touting nuclear energy as 'green' power," ignoring the nuclear waste issue.

AP story: Three Medford school teachers were threatened with arrest and escorted from the event after they showed up for a Bush campaign event wearing T-shirts with the slogan "Protect our civil liberties." All three said they applied for and received valid tickets from Republican headquarters in Medford. "The women said they did not intend to protest. Oooh, you gotta love it. Tuesday in the VP debate against John Edwards, VP Dick Cheney screwed up and urged voters to verify the integrity of his claims by visiting the "factcheck.com" web site. Unfortunately, that domain points to the web site of George Soros, a billionare investor and philanthropist, who has put up a scathing criticism of the Bush administration on the front page which states in no uncertain terms: President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests, and undermining American values..

Way to go Dick!

First Ronald Reagan's son, Ron endorsed Kerry, and now John Eisenhower, the son of Republican legend Dwight ' Ike' Eisenhower has announced his support for the Democrats!

Writing in New Hampshire's Union Leader, Eisenhower said that after 50 years as a staunch Republican, "today’s 'Republican' Party is one with which I am totally unfamiliar."

Eisenhower hammers the Bush regime's tax cuts for the rich, while running up irresponsible deficits, its failure to build international alliances, and the threats to individual freedoms with legislation like the Patriot Act.
