[Eureka!]
When Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-step programs are examined in controlled studies, a new review reports, scientists find no proof that they are superior to any other intervention in reducing alcohol dependence or alcohol-related problems.

The researchers, led by Marica Ferri of the Italian Agency for Public Health in Rome, found little to suggest that 12-step programs reduced the severity of addiction any more than any other intervention. And no data showed that 12-step interventions were any more or any less successful in increasing the number of people who stayed in treatment or reducing the number who relapsed after being sober.

It was a warm Saturday night in New York City as a mixed crowd of atheists and Christians converged on Calvary Baptist Church in midtown Manhattan for the first "Nightline Face-Off." And it wasn't long before temperatures began to rise inside the auditorium.

By the way, Pile from BSalert.com worked with Brian, Kelly and the Rational Response Squad in coming up with some of the responses to questions in the debate.

The question for our debate was "Does God Exist?"

In the aftermath, both sides are claiming victory, but did both sides play by the rules? Rational Response Squad responds to the show.

Church Erects "Statue of Christian Liberty"

A church in Memphis, TN, is spending approximately $260,000 to erect a 72-foot-tall version of the Statue of Liberty, only holding a cross instead of a torch and carrying tablets containing the 10 Commandments instead of the "Give me your poor, your tired, your hungry...."

It's really great that these 12,000 church members can't think of any better uses for 2.5 million dollars than building a statue commingling religion and nationalism. After all, there probably aren't any poor or sick people in Memphis to tend to, as Christ asked his followers to do.

A friend of mine sent these pictures to me, taken by someone in Louisiana. I wonder what State Farm Corporate thinks of this? And it's further ironic considering what this insurance company did to residents in the region post-Katrina.

I had to personally drive out and verify this. Yes, it's there.

Ever since Obama was elected to the White House, conservatives and gun enthusiasts have been screaming about how likely Barak Obama is to take away peoples firearms. People talk of the "Clinton ban" which restricted assault weapons in 1994 and claim another Democrat in the White House is bad news for gun owners.

But is this truthful? Are Democrats more for gun control than Republicans? We examine historical and recent legislation to reveal that a lot of what people are saying is total BS...

[So-They-Say]

President Bush was at Monticello for a 4th of July celebration and he delivered an address. But it's quite telling that his speechwriters, in quoting Jefferson, cut out an anti-religious statement from a long and famous quote. Here's the way Bush put it:

Thomas Jefferson understood that these rights do not belong to Americans alone. They belong to all mankind. And he looked to the day when all people could secure them. On the 50th anniversary of America's independence, Thomas Jefferson passed away. But before leaving this world, he explained that the principles of the Declaration of Independence were universal. In one of the final letters of his life, he wrote, "May it be to the world, what I believe it will be -- to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all -- the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government."

Now let's look at the full quote, including the part that was cut out...

It's amusing that media like Fox News routinely make fun of Wiki as being an unreliable source of information. Now we know why: People at Fox have been systematically hacking entries in Wiki and removing/distorting facts.

This time they've been caught red-handed, with their pants down, thanks to Wikipedia's "liberally-biased" system that tracks all changes to the system and where they came from.

Personal Letters Show Now-Sainted Mother Teresa Was An Atheist

Posted by Pile (24078 views) Add this story to MyYahoo Add this article to del.icio.us Submit article to Reddit Add story to Furl Add story to StumbleUpon [E-Mail link]

In life, Mother Teresa was an icon for believers of God's work on Earth. Her ministry to the poor of Calcutta was a world-renowned symbol of religious compassion. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a rare interview in 1986, Mother Teresa told CBS News she had a calling, based on unquestioned faith.

"They are all children of God, loved and created by the same heart of God," she said.

But now, it has emerged that Mother Teresa was so doubtful of her own faith that she feared being a hypocrite, according to a book of her letters which was recently released. Her doubts about faith were documented as far back as the 1950s.
