[So-They-Say]

President Bush was at Monticello for a 4th of July celebration and he delivered an address. But it's quite telling that his speechwriters, in quoting Jefferson, cut out an anti-religious statement from a long and famous quote. Here's the way Bush put it:

Thomas Jefferson understood that these rights do not belong to Americans alone. They belong to all mankind. And he looked to the day when all people could secure them. On the 50th anniversary of America's independence, Thomas Jefferson passed away. But before leaving this world, he explained that the principles of the Declaration of Independence were universal. In one of the final letters of his life, he wrote, "May it be to the world, what I believe it will be -- to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all -- the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government."

Now let's look at the full quote, including the part that was cut out...

Personal Letters Show Now-Sainted Mother Teresa Was An Atheist

In life, Mother Teresa was an icon for believers of God's work on Earth. Her ministry to the poor of Calcutta was a world-renowned symbol of religious compassion. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a rare interview in 1986, Mother Teresa told CBS News she had a calling, based on unquestioned faith.

"They are all children of God, loved and created by the same heart of God," she said.

But now, it has emerged that Mother Teresa was so doubtful of her own faith that she feared being a hypocrite, according to a book of her letters which was recently released. Her doubts about faith were documented as far back as the 1950s.

It's amusing that media like Fox News routinely make fun of Wiki as being an unreliable source of information. Now we know why: People at Fox have been systematically hacking entries in Wiki and removing/distorting facts.

This time they've been caught red-handed, with their pants down, thanks to Wikipedia's "liberally-biased" system that tracks all changes to the system and where they came from.

This is about a year old, but still worth revisiting because it never got enough press last year: Deep within the "Terrorist Tribunal" Act is a provision retroactively pardoning the President, Vice President, and their subordinates for violations of the War Crimes Act committed since September 11, 2001.

Btw this bill was part of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which passed and is now law.

Natalee Holloway vs. Reyna Gabriela Alvarado-Carrera

[Media]
[Your 15m]
Does the name "Natalee Holloway" ring a bell? If your butt has been in front of any news channel in the last month, it probably has been subjected to this latest crime-story-pundit-fest. This is the 18-year-old Alabama girl who vanished while on a school trip to Aruba and has fueled a media frenzy. The guys over at kuro5hin have a brilliant op-ed piece entitled, "f*ck Natalee Holloway", which outlines the insane disparity between select white people who poof and the large number of other young women and children who go missing each year and whom the media doesn't give a damn about. And when you have things like Holland sending three F-16 warplanes to assist in the search for Natalee, the disgusting circus and the amount of money pissed into a singular case expands to epic preportions of superficiality and sensationalism. Read on for the whole story... and about Reyna Gabriela Alvarado-Carrera, pictured here, who disappeared about the same time, nobody seems to give a damn about.

Dawn Turner Trice writes, If we took all of our cues from the media, we'd be forced to conclude that the only people who come up missing in this country are young girls and women who are white. Who are middle- to upper-middle-class. Who are cute as a button.

Let's not forget blonde.

Cats and Dogs Protect Web Sites From Spammers

[Eureka!]
If you've been online for any length of time you know that many web sites now have a system called CAPTCHA which is a "human recognition system" that tries to stop automated programs from posting messages online. This is usually done by tossing up an annoying image with distorted numbers and letters and asking a user to repeat the phrase. Sometimes even humans can't read the stupid images.

Enter Microsoft with their Asirra project. They're working on a new human-detection technology which also has the added benefit of promoting animal adoption. In combination with Petfinder, they display images of animals and ask the user to identify the difference between cats and dogs. This system is apparently much harder to defeat than regular CAPTCHA, and you could end up with a fuzzy new companion in the process!

"Davis said it wasn't supposed to be like this. They survived Hurricane Katrina's Category 3 winds and the ensuing looters. They reopened despite the long odds of doing business in a devastated city. The last thing the Magazine Street shop owners expected to threaten their survival was a crime ring of transvestites....

The transvestites first appeared in March when they raided Magazine Street like a marauding army of kleptomaniacal showgirls, said Davis, using clockwork precision and brute force to satisfy high-end boutique needs."

"Vagina Institute" Poorly Disguised Sham

[Sex]
Finally...a group devoted to serious scientific study of female sexuality. "The Vagina Institute specializes in collecting and processing, data and information about the vulva and vagina." Or is it?

As if the serious grammatical error in the very sentence describing the institute's mission weren't already a dead giveaway that something is up here, it takes about five seconds to figure out that the site is a gigantic fraud...not-very-good porn and, what's more, propaganda for various ineffective techniques to "enhance" women's naughty bits poorly disguised as clinical study of real medical and sexual issues. (URL withheld because we don't want to help its page rank...Google it if you must see for yourself.)

I've got no problem with porn, and hey, the Internet is unregulated...if you want to put up a site suggesting that poontang is ugly and needs dubiously effective, costly fixes at the earliest possible opportunity, have at it. But come on...let's at least be honest about it. The sad thing about this site is that a few women might actually come here looking for information about their vaginas and whether they are "normal," and come away convinced that they need to spend thousands of dollars on "natural, non-surgical solutions" before any guy would ever deign to look at them down there. (After all, everyone knows that looking is the #1 priority for guys when they've got a willing naked woman on their hands.) This site is no different from spam telling you how to make your penis bigger, except that it's not as up-front about it.

Rush Limbaugh Implicated In Vote Fraud Scheme

Posted by Pile (26550 views) Add this story to MyYahoo Add this article to del.icio.us Submit article to Reddit Add story to Furl Add story to StumbleUpon [E-Mail link]

In case you missed it, Rush Limbaugh, the oxycotin-taking conservative talk radio host, was urging Republicans in Texas and Ohio to skip their party's primary on March 4 and instead cast a vote for Hillary Clinton in order to prolong the fight between her and Barack Obama. And that Tuesday, as media in both states reported, thousands of Republicans did just what Limbaugh and others had suggested -- they changed parties to vote for Clinton.

One problem. That's basically illegal. And now the board of elections is looking into a criminal investigation of the matter.
