[Olympics]
One of the top-ranked Iranian judo competitors at the 2004 Olympics refused to wrestle and Israeli in his match and resigned from the competition. His government paid him $125k for doing so.

It seems to me the Olympics should be non-political, but it would be hypocritical of many nations to criticize this action. Don't forget the US boycotted the 1980 Olympics and the Russians did the same thing in 1984.

No politics in the Olympics!

Yeah, but we didn't pay our athletes to miss the games that year.

I say criticize them all for bringing politics into the games. If the ancient Greeks could stop a war in the middle to go to the games, we can stop being pissy about competing with nations whose politics we don't agree with. America was wrong to do so; the Soviet Union was wrong to do so; and this guy was wrong to do so. He would have made a much better point if he had wrestled and won--oh, but maybe he didn't have a chance in hell of winning. Well, he can always act like Cartman and say "Screw you guys--I'm going home."

And a double whammy to our glorious leader for suggesting that the Olympics were some kind of celebration of his preferred form of government. Every nation is welcome; every athlete is welcome; and an athlete who refuses to participate with "certain" countries should never have agreed to represent his country in the first place. Americans, too.
