Apparently there's a "hot" debate going on regarding the use of hot sauce to punish children.

Is it just me, or is this the stupidest thing you've ever heard of? I don't have an issue with the punitive aspect of disciplining children, but hot sauce? Has, "Go get me the belt!" been replaced with, "Go get me the Tabasco?"

won't work here

On the plus side, it's nonviolent, and causes no physical damage.

On the down side, it won't work at all here in south Louisiana. The child is likely to consider a drop of Tabasco as a treat.
Hot Sauce

Do you really think that using Hot Sauce as a remedy for childhood rebelling is really going to work? There are much better ways of discipling your children. Taking away something that they really like or maybe even play with is better than this.
what works?

It seems if you only have a casual interest in your childrens' lives, no punishment would come close to comparing with the continual sense of abandonment and apathy they endure. In that case, they'd gladly accept any punishment because it meant a better-than-average level of attention.

However, if you're a decent parent and you really care about your children, they'll be kept in line merely via their realization that they've disappointed someone so important in their lives.

IMO, if you need to get creative with discipline with your children, you're a f*cking shitty parent and should probably have your kids taken away and given to someone else who will spend more time with them so they don't need radical treatment.
