Delta Pulls Ads From Daily Show Following Catholic Complaint

The Daily show calls attention to a "Battle for the War on Women." While multiple states roll back the equal pay and health rights that women have come to enjoy, Fox News relegates the "war on women" to the rank of "phony" political fight. And in the process, one of their bits enrages the Catholic League, (the same guy who claimed victims of child abuse are a bunch of greedy, bigoted whiners), which prompts Delta Airlines to pull their ads from the show.

Jon Stewart's response? "I’m not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance." Check out the offending video...

Delta Air Lines has pulled its advertising from cable TV’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ,” following fallout from the host’s reference to a controversial Nativity scene as a “vagina manger.”

A spokeswoman for the Atlanta-based airline told Buzzfeed.com that the ad pullout had nothing to do with the Catholic League’s campaign to get Stewart to apologize for the April 16 segment on the Comedy Central show.

The “Daily Show” segment featured Stewart mocking the Fox News Channel for not covering a so-called Republican “war on women.” He said, “Maybe women could protect their reproductive organs from unwanted medical intrusions with vagina mangers.”

The Catholic League noted that that during the segment a “picture flashed on the screen of a naked woman with her legs spread with a Nativity scene ornament in between.”

In a statement, the Catholic civil rights group called the segment “the most vulgar expression of hate speech ever aired on television.” President Bill Donohue demanded Stewart apologize and threatened to pressure the show’s sponsors to pull their advertising if he didn’t.

Stewart didn’t apologize. During a recent comedy routine in Clearwater, Fla., Stewart referred to the Catholic League’s campaign with, “I’m not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance,” according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Catholic League launched its campaign, sending the controversial Nativity image to the show’s advertisers, encouraging other major religious groups to join the effort, buying protest ads in major publications and applying pressure on Comedy Central’s parent company, Viacom.

Delta spokeswoman Leslie Parker told Buzzfeed the ad pullout had nothing to do with “any opinions expressed” by the show. “We are constantly evaluating our advertising strategy and at this time no longer advertise during “The Daily Show”, she said.

At least one major sponsor, however, is not pulling its ad. Cereal maker Kellogg said in a statement: “Consumers speak most loudly when they vote with their remote control and change the channel or turn off the TV if a program does not fit their personal criteria.”

the Daily Show is pathetic, anyway

Delta can and should save their ad dollars and not waste them on the Comedy Channel, whose only good show is Southpark. Besides, are the losers who watch Jon Stewart really going to drop coin on an airfare? No, they won't. They are the types of fools who'll throw rocks thru a window, defecate on cop cars, and never bathe, and demand a free iPhone plus everything else they are unwilling to work for but insist gets stolen from others and given to them because they "deserve it."

The Daily Show is my favorite show on TV. You can actually gain perspective on the current state of politics - a perspective you can't get from Fox, CNN, ABC, etal.  They either have an agenda (Fox) or are so full of fluff and have superficial coverage that they are nearly useless (CNN, etc.).  About the only reliable news outlet is PBS.

BTW, Crackers the Troll, I drop PLENTY of coin on airfare, ironically enough, flying Delta.  But I have other choices.  I think I will boycott them in favor of a carrier with a spine.

So Delta pulled their add because some religious nut got offended? Well, Mr Donahue, didn't anyone ever tell you that there are two knobs on your TV? One turns off the TV and the other one changes the channel!!! Can you believe such a thing exists? It's called Freedom of Choice and it's one of the Founding principles that this country is supposed to have. You know what we should do with all these powerful Religious Groups that we have lurking around? TAX THEM!!! Because if they're so interested in politics, telling people what to do and how to run their lives, and making laws....LET THEM PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! You could wipe out the debt with a lot of the income they get!!!
