Belief in Aliens Posted by carouselle on 2008-05-18 10:09:18 | While it's true that believing in aliens does not contradict believing in God, it also does nothing to enhance it. If anything, I think it is a distraction. There's a perfectly logical reason God chose not to address the subject of other lifeforms in the universe, because there is no purpose for it. People become so obsessed by the subject of aliens that they forget to focus on what He has given us to learn on how to live life in this place called Earth. |
Posted by Gliscameria on 2008-05-19 18:22:16 | Ummm... believing in Aliens pretty much contradicts that one book... you know... the one the christians take LITERALLY... the red one... ohh yeah.. the BIBLE.
If aliens are OK, then they are pretty much f*cked, as God send down his ONLY SON to earth, to save us. Isn't that in the book? And how the hell did they get so advanced when we were all created at about the same time? I guess being hella advanced mentally isn't much of a consolation considering they are damned by definition.
This makes no sense at all. Why doesn't the church just pack it in. Just come out and say "Yes. A long time ago a bunch of guys got together and wanted to get rich and powerful by controlling a completely imaginary commodity. Well, we're rich now, and the plan is kind of falling apart with this whole 'science' thing. So, yeah, find something else to do on Sunday." |
Re: Carouselle's Comment Posted by Clamburger on 2011-04-18 23:43:44 | Carouselle says that believing in aliens is a distraction. I would argue the same about the veneration of Mary. It detracts from the centrality of Jesus and. It zooms out, so to speak.
If, by chance, Carouselle is Catholic, I would ask him/her: Why this, but not that? |
