President Bush, a man who's about as popular as bacon sandwiches during Ramadan, is just getting started. Vetoing, that is. A bill which fairly flew through both houses of Congress with incredible support from both sides has been struck down by el Presidente. What was wrong with it? It gives money to repair hurricane damage, restore wetlands, and prevent flooding. Those bastards.

The $23 billion Water Resources Development Act passed the House by 381 to 40 and the Senate by 81 to 12. If you asked these guys to vote on whether or not breathing was good you probably wouldn't get that kind of majority. Bush opposed the Act because he claims it's too expensive-- Dana Perino, White House spokesfox, called the act "fiscally irresponsible" with a straight face. It's worth noting that this administration wouldn't know fiscal responsibility if it bought them drinks down at the bar and Bush vetoed NOT ONE spending bill while the Republicans were at the wheel of this particular handbasket. The scorned act will almost certainly become a law as the Democrats can count on enough votes to override Pres. Bush's veto.
