A Google Health Account Planner did not like Michael Moore's new film, Sicko, about the deficiencies in this country's healthcare system. Fair enough, it's a free country--she then posted her opinion on Google's corporate blog that “Moore’s film portrays the industry as money and marketing driven, and fails to show healthcare’s interest in patient well-being and care." She wants to help the poor industry get out its own message of peace and love, but how to do that? |
| Not with a rebuttal film, that's for sure (although I'm sure they'd line up around the block to watch Shut Up And Buy More Insurance). No, Lauren Turner, the aforementioned Account Planner, thought that it'd help them to buy more ad space on... (wait for it) Google! Of course some took the message on the corporate blog to be something of an official stance by Google but Ms. Turner "clarified" (a hateful, hateful word that really should only be applied to butter) her statement saying that the opinions expressed were hers and hers alone. Although, she adds, “whether the healthcare industry wants to rebut the charges in Mr. Moore’s movie, or whether Mr. Moore wants to challenge the healthcare industry, advertising is a very democratic and effective way to participate in a public dialogue.” Giving money to corporate America--the cornerstone of our democracy. | Details | |
