For the very first time, a Hindu delivered the morning invocation in the Senate chamber — only to find the ceremony disrupted by three Christian right activists. Check out the video.
The three protesters, who all belong to the Christian Right anti-abortion group Operation Save America, and who apparently traveled to Washington all the way from North Carolina, interrupted by loudly asking for God's forgiveness for allowing the false prayer of a Hindu in the Senate chamber.
"Lord Jesus, forgive us father for allowing a prayer of the wicked, which is an abomination in your sight," the first protester began.
"This is an abomination," he continued. "We shall have no other gods before You."
Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), serving as the presiding officer for the morning, immediately ordered them taken away — though they continued to yell at the Hindu cleric as they were headed out the door, shouting out phrases such as, "No Lord but Jesus Christ!" and "There's only one true God!"
The cleric, Rajan Zed of Reno, Nevada, was visibly nervous and uncomfortable as he then delivered the morning prayer. But to his credit, he soon regained his footing and was able to make it through in a dignified fashion.
For their part, Operation Save America put out an interesting press release, claiming responsibility for the protests and castigating Senators for not joining in:
Theology Moved to the Senate and was Arrested
Theology has moved from the church house onto the floor of the United States Senate, and has been arrested.
Ante Pavkovic, Kathy Pavkovic, and Kristen Sugar were all arrested in the chambers of the United States Senate as that chamber was violated by a false Hindu god. The Senate was opened with a Hindu prayer placing the false god of Hinduism on a level playing field with the One True God, Jesus Christ. This would never have been allowed by our Founding Fathers.
"Not one Senator had the backbone to stand as our Founding Fathers stood. They stood on the Gospel of Jesus Christ! There were three in the audience with the courage to stand and proclaim, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me.' They were immediately removed from the chambers, arrested, and are in jail now. God bless those who stand for Jesus as we know that He stands for them." Rev. Flip Benham, Director, Operation Save America/Operation Rescue
For several days, the Mississippi-based American Family Association has urged its members to object to the prayer because Zed would be "seeking the invocation of a non-monotheistic god."
Zed, the first Hindu to offer the Senate prayer, began: "We meditate on the transcendental glory of the Deity Supreme, who is inside the heart of the Earth, inside the life of the sky and inside the soul of the heaven. May He stimulate and illuminate our minds."
As the Senate prepared for another day of debate over the Iraq war, Zed closed with, "Peace, peace, peace be unto all."
Zed, who was born in India, was invited by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. Speaking in the chamber shortly after the prayer, Reid defended the choice and linked it to the war debate.
"If people have any misunderstanding about Indians and Hindus," Reid said, "all they have to do is think of Gandhi," a man "who gave his life for peace."
People are now referring to this new wave of intolerant Christians as "Talibangelists" invoking the idea of an American Taliban where the state promotes a very specific religion. Oh goody.

My first thought was "Oh, those assholes... Insane how much the bastard-step-children religions of Judaism (Christians and Muslims) hate anyone who is not one of them...." (Jews don't care.. they're sure everyone else is screwed anyway, just for not being of the Chosen people).
Then my second thought was "Why the f*ck is there a prayer in the Senate?!"

...just can't wait to see if any of those Senators respond to the slur against them for 'not standing up to' what was going on! I suppose, though, that it would be easier for them to say nothing.

The Democrats try to bring demons into the senate, probably to throw the undecideds to attack the president. Unfortunately, we Christians also know how to cast out Hindu demons. Too bad.

Uh, Timbo? There were several Republicans who supported the idea of this man leading the prayer, too.
And anyone who sincerely believes that Hinduists are or worship demons needs a psychological evaluation.
Also, here's something for all the theocracy proponents to think about:
"Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination."

there is a christian thing called "the holy trinity"
which is jesus god and "the holy spirit"
they are all technically god but they are not each other
im not making this up

@ Werewere: Christians will go out of their way to disagree with you, who believe in the Trinity. They'll say they are three different entities in one person, yadda yadda. It does seem even to me, who grew up Catholic, to be rather odd they keep insisting its all monothiestic.
Anyway, what Operation Save America doesn't realize is......many of our Founding Fathers were Freemasons. So, trying to say they'd never allow this because they were Christian is either ignorance or a lie.
