 During Fox News' coverage of the July 7 London bombings, Washington managing editor Brit Hume commented, I mean, my first thought when I heard -- just on a personal basis, when I heard there had been this attack and I saw the futures this morning, which were really in the tank, I thought, "Hmmm, time to buy."
This is in stark contrast to CNN Host Anderson Cooper, who, during a remote broadcast in the middle of the worst part of Hurricane Dennis, said to a fellow commentator, "This might be vain, but you've got a leaf in your hair." |

If America were Iraq, What would it be Like?

What would America look like if it were in Iraq's current situation?
The population of the US is over 11 times that of Iraq, so a lot of statistics would have to be multiplied by that number.
Thus, violence killed 300 Iraqis last week, the equivalent proportionately of 3,300 Americans. What if 3,300 Americans had died in car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks, machine gun spray, and aerial bombardment in the last week?
That is a number greater than the deaths on September 11, and if America were Iraq, it would be an ongoing, weekly or monthly toll.

In response to the seemingly never-ending diatribes on the part of republicans over "supporting our troops" and the merciless criticisms they levy against "filthy liberals" who they claim are "against the war" 
On April 25, Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood. U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States.
Ben Cohen, one of the founders of Ben & Jerry's ice cream empire, has produced a provacative short outlining the size of America's nuclear stockpile (which is frighteningly excessive - far beyond what is necessary for either defense, or to destroy every other country on the planet). And the sad part is how many things could be improved if just some of the ongoing taxpayer money that is required to maintain this huge stockpile was put to other uses.
