This week marked the last taping of the incredibly mediocre Comedy Central show "Tough Crowd" with Colin Quinn. I guess they gave Quinn enough years to attempt to master his speaking and timing ability to no avail.

From the Washington Post:

First Tucker Carlson was dissed by Jon Stewart. Now, is nature turning against him, too? Early yesterday morning, Carlson was snoozing in the back of a town car, returning from a debate with his CNN "Crossfire" co-host Paul Begala at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. Two deer darted onto Interstate 95 south of Baltimore. The driver avoided one but collided with the other, setting off the air bag and rendering the car undrivable.

Even journalists agree: TV news sucks

The Committee of Concerned Journalists, a consortium of reporters, editors, producers, publishers, owners and academics, has surveyed its own membership about the quality of election campaign coverage this year, and the results aren't pretty. Nearly three quarters of respondents gave the press a C, D or F grade, and only 3% gave an A. By large majorities they felt the news media has become sidetracked by trivial issues, has been too reactive and has focused too much on campaign strategy rather than substance. They gave particularly low grades to television and much higher grades to newspapers and online coverage. The online news sites in fact got more A grades than any other medium - a notable improvement in the internet's reputation relative to other information sources. The situation seems to have degenerated to the point that there are entire web sites are being dedicated towards tracking errors within news media.

Sinclair flip-flops & won't air Kerry-bashing documentary

Apparently getting caught up in a massive backlash and boycott effort from the public over their outrage, the Sinclair group, owners of 60+ stations around the country, have backpedaled on their intent to run an anti-Kerry documentary days before the election. Well, in a twist of words they say they won't run the thing "in its entirety."

Instead, the company intends to re-package the documentary as a series of clips in a more ambiguous "public service" attack show which will, at least, start off "examining the role of the media in shaping public policy".

In a story that seems made for this site, we've come across an interesting new invention called "TV-B-Gone" - a little thingy that sits on your keychain and has the power to turn off most television sets. Its inventors claim they thought of the idea while eating out one night and being distracted by a tv in a restaurant. The inventors claim the device will give people back time that the tv would otherwise suck from their life.

A malfunctioning Toshiba television set apparently sent out a 121.5Mhz broadcast, a frequency used for international distress signals, and was picked up by a satellite which prompted a hunt by authorities which ended with search and rescue teams showing up at the residence of a very shocked 20-year old college student. Personally I think this was a cry for help from the TV because the guy was watching "Fear Factor."

Fake newscasters continue to take on pseudo-journalists

As Robert Novak recovers from having a broken hip, he still continues to get a free "pass" from the press for not revealing the White House source who outted a CIA agent, effectively committing treason. To add insult to injury Novak wants other reporters to out their sources and/or do it for them. Meanwhile taxpayers foot the multimillion dollar bill for some sort of goofy investigation that dances all around the fact that Novak is at this time, the traitor who won't ID the staffer who committed treason.

These events have become so far-fetched and illogical that it seems we're in some sort of bizarro world, where fake-news comedians such as Jon Stewart and his Daily Show offer more information, truth and insight than CNN and other networks. Jon Stewart has now gone on the offensive, taking shots at mainstream news for not doing their job.

Jon Stewart on Crossfire: "You guys are partisian hacks!"

Jon Stewart appeared live on CNN's "Crossfire". Tucker Carlson and company apparently expected Jon to come on and do his "Schtick". What they didn't expect was Jon switching roles and bitch-slapping the show's hosts, calling Crossfire "bad for America" and telling them in no uncertain terms, unlike his show which is comedy, CNN has failed the public and is providing "theater" instead of useful news to the community.

In a tight race, The Daily Show's Jon Stewart says he'll probably vote for Kerry. Some viewers may think that was obvious, but The Daily Show roasts both sides with equal vigor--it's just that the Bush guys are so darn easy to make fun of.
