After Katrina, maybe we shouldn't be surprised to learn that the Department of Homeland Security--in charge of setting the government's agenda on cyber security--scored an F for its own cyber protection, for the third year in a row. Overall, government computer systems remain at roughly the same level of security that they had in 2004--an average score of a D+.

Hundreds of available trucks, boats, planes and federal officers were unused in search and rescue efforts immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit because FEMA failed to give them missions, new documents show.

Additionally, the Federal Emergency Management Agency called off its search and rescue operations in Louisiana three days after the Aug. 29 storm because of security issues, according to an internal FEMA e-mail given to Senate investigators.

In another outlandish expose of the security of Diebold's new electronic voting machines, which the mainstream media continues to un-report, election officials in Florida test the security of new Diebold voting machines.

Four times over the past year, Leon County supervisor of elections, Ion Sancho told computer specialists to break in to his voting system. And on all four occasions they did, changing results with what the specialists described as relatively unsophisticated hacking techniques. The results showed the vulnerability of voting equipment manufactured by Ohio-based Diebold Election Systems, which is used by Leon County and many other jurisdictions around the country.

The New York Times reports that the Louisiana-based mining company Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold worked closely with Indonesian military intelligence officers to monitor the email and phone calls of environmental activists concerned about the impacts of the company's Grasberg mine in Indonesia's Papua province. Freeport "set up its own system to intercept e-mail messages, according to former and current employees, by establishing a bogus environmental group of its own, which asked people to register online with a password. As is often the case, many who registered used the same password for their own messages, which then allowed the company to tap in," Jane Perlez and Raymond Bonner report. Freeport declined to comment. Perlez and Bonner also disclosed extensive details on Freeport's payments to the Indonesian military. Freeport's joint venture partner, Rio Tinto, also declined to comment.

Just when you thought the current administration couldn't dip deeper into the cesspool of cronyism, and right during the time when Bush is wandering the nation scaring the crap out of people over the avian bird flu pandemic, we thought it might be interesting to see who he picked to deal with a disaster of this nature. The answer? Stewart Simonson. Who is this guy? Is he a doctor? A specialist in emergency management and infectious diseases? Public management experience? Medical experience at all? Did he stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? Not even! He's a big-time GOP contributor and former counsel for Amtrak!

As Michael "Brownie" Brown was botching the federal emergency response to Hurricane Katrina, the ousted FEMA director sent a series of embarrassing e-mails to colleagues discussing his appearance, the care of his dog, and, as the storm was making landfall, his desire to "quit" and "go home." Copies of Brown's e-mails were just provided by Department of Homeland Security officials to a congressional panel examining the government's disaster response.

While the news media dances around implications that nobody really knows who outed a CIA agent, apparently most mainstream journalists can't read.

From Paragraph 14 of the indictment:

On June 23, 2003, LIBBY met with New York Times reporter Judith Miller. During this meeting . . . Libby informed her that [Joe] Wilson's wife might work at the CIA.

But who's the mysterious "Official A". I think we know. Read the indictment.

Still why was Miller in jail and douchebag-of-liberty Robert Novak walks among humanity? Is Novak a human, or some sort of partisian robotic creation that is above investigation?

An advisory committee to the U.S. State Department has issued a new report which frankly admits that the war in Iraq, combined with prisoner abuses at Abu Ghraib, has deeply damaged America's image in the rest of the world. "There is deep and abiding anger toward U.S. policies and actions."

I wonder how much taxpayer dollars it cost to figure that one out?

In what can only be hailed as the pinnacle of short-sightedness, the Bush Administration, in an effort to toss money at the Hurricane Katrina disaster in order to deflect ever-increasing criticism over the Federal government's botched handling, is proposing on the back end, that the money used to rebuild New Orleans be obtained via cutting various government programs, including funding to the Army Corps of Engineers and other projects involved in strengthening the Louisiana levee system. Unbelievable!

The ZOTOB virus appeared shortly after the world's largest software maker warned of three newly found "critical" security flaws in its software last week, including one that could allow attackers to take complete control of a computer. However, the latest version of the virus seems to be targeting Windows 2000 servers, an old and bug-ridden Microsoft software that apparently many prominent companies are still using. It's hard to be sympathetic to these companies when they have many more resources than us small-timers who are completely immune to infection by these worms.

Mother of an American soldier killed in Iraq, Cindy Sheehan, has apparently interrupted Bush's latest vacation in Crawford to hang out nearby and request an audience with the president to explain to her what her son actually died for. Local authorities have been herding Cindy and her friends into ditches on the side of the road and are now threatening to arrest her on Thursday, claiming she's a threat to national security, not to mention an embarassment to Bush's upcoming Bar-B-Que fundraiser scheduled in the area.

CBS Decides Its Viewers "Can't Handle The [PHONY] Truth."

CBS/Infinity Radio has refused to air paid commercial announcements for an upcoming non-partisan symposium on terrorism, claiming "people might be too emotionally affected" by it.

"CBS/Infinity Radio joins Sinclair Broadcasting in refusing to air fact-based content about issues important to the country," said David Masak, the media production director for Peoples Truth Forum's symposium. "The facts of the threat we face might be disturbing, but that's the truth of the matter. Why CBS/Infinity wouldn't want to take this opportunity to share the facts with the American people, especially in light of the recent bombings in London, says a lot about CBS."

Or maybe is says more about the People's Truth Forum?

I don't know about you, but this set my BS Detector off, and I suspect CBS told the group to shove it when they found out the president of the People's Truth Forum was also the guy behind the bogus, muck-raking media bile, "Vietnam Vets For Truth" which was a wannabe "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" PAC which manufactured a plethora of lies during the last presidential campaign, including allegations comparing Kerry to Nazi collaborators and the erroneous claim Kerry is considered a Communist hero to the North Vietnamese and helped them achieve victory.
