[Olympics]
[Vanity]
It looks like I'm not alone. While I enjoy the olympics and the figure skating has been interesting, I still am not sure what to make over some of these outfits. What are the designers thinking? It used to be skating costumes were merely "gay"-looking. Now they've moved into the realm of some kind of weird mushroom-induced, Michael Jacksonfied, when-animals-attack, Caligula-inspired, barbie-doll, mermaid-transexual, lion king afterbirth nightmare. What is the deal?

Sony's PlayStation Portable isn't turning out to be the hot new movie platform many in the biz had hoped.

With sales falling below expectations, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video are cutting back on movie releases for the PSP.

What? You mean there wasn't a rush of people running out to buy movies to watch on a four inch LCD? Maybe they've moved over to watching movies on their cell phones?

Apparently the "next big thing" after Passion of the Christ, as lauded by various Christian groups is the new movie "March of the Penguins". As more and more churches seem to morph into PACs and focused consumer groups purchasing block tickets to 'Christian-friendly' movies, the latest fad is this penguin movie, in which some claim to see God in the Emperor Penguin. Ironically this is a French-made movie.

You ever wonder who that mysterious "9th caller" is who wins the Celine Dion tickets in the radio station giveaway? Maybe there is no 9th caller. Maybe it's all part of an elaborate payola scam?

I know you're probably thinking why would Sony need to pay radio stations to play such great music from artists like Jennifer Lopez, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavine, but it's true.

Movie Industry Ponders Why Box Office Sales Lagging

[Industry]
This week, executives in the movie/theatre business took a break from resting their heads comfortably up their butts to state that they're concerned over lagging attendence and receipts at theatres, citing one of the worst theatrical slumps in twenty years. Shortly thereafter they beamed with excitement about the new movies on the horizon such as Bewitched and War of the Worlds, then resumed their cranial-buttock encampment.

Maybe it's because I'm charged $7 to sit through twenty minutes of stupid commercials before the movie? Perhaps I'm sick of paying $4 for a root beer, and then wishing I was dead halfway into realizing that I paid actual money to see a bad remake of the Dukes of Hazard?

Of course, maybe this is all the fault of the internets?

With the success of Batman Begins in the theatres, everyone is talking about how the story is about a millionaire with no special powers who equips himself with training and equipment to become a crime fighter. Forbes has produced a story outlining what the real world costs would be to begin being Batman.

Obviously being a super-villian costs a bit less. You just need to come from a rich Republican dynasty.

Hard For Hollywood To Blame P2P With Record Breaking Sales?

The opening of Star Wars, Revenge of The Sith is breaking all sorts of box office records, and took in more than $16 Million on its first showing alone! This apparently hasn't stopped the film industry from whining that Internet piracy, and online trading of the movie is running them out of busines. One guy was cited for taking a picture of the movie screen.

I mean, it makes perfect sense. Who would want to pay $7.50 and see the movie on a hundred foot screen in 6+ channel sound when you can spend 200 hours downloading a low-quality video version with someone's thumb hanging off the left corner of the frame to watch on your laptop? Those Hollywood people are so intuitive and clever, I bet they're even working a prequel to Pearl Harbor.

It seems Fiona Apple, dark pop songstress who disappeared from the scene several years ago is again making news. Apparently she put out an album called, Extraordinary Machine, that her record label, Sony, didn't feel contained an appropriate pop single, so they held her work hostage and wouldn't release the album. Now tracks from this album have mysteriously appeared on the Internet, delighting her fans. The irony is that for all the bad-guy-image Sony may inherit from this scenario, they'll probably ride this net-buzz all the way to the bank, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the company actually leaked the album to create a buzz.
