There's a buzz going around the tech community of an interesting demonstration of Google's ability to ferret credit card numbers from the web.

Generally-speaking, the Fair Credit Billing Act of 1976 protects American consumers against fradulent activity, but it never ceases to amaze me how stupid customers and stupid merchants put sensitive information in public Internet space.

[Olympics]
Apparently, to protect its lucrative broadcasting contracts, the IOC is restricting most Olympic competitors and support personnel from publishing any first-hand accounts, pictures or related media online for the duration of the games. Why anybody thinks O'Reilly has any credibility is beyond me.

[Spam]
In no doubt another embarassing revelation on the total ineffectiveness of law enforcement, the state of New York settles its case against a notorious spammer for a mere $50k, which not surprisingly the spammer claims is a win for him. Maybe some day we will have real law enforcement against these spamming goons who break into peoples' computers to spread junk e-mail, but today we have more BS.

[Pubic Relations]
A sexy video of a 19-year-old Cameron Diaz in bondage gear has apparently surfaced on the Internet being sold by (*gasp*) a Russian web site. The Charlie's Angels' publicist verifies its authenticity and claims they had an injunction to have this stopped. It's hard to believe that anyone would think a video of a semi-nude, 19-yo Cameron Diaz on a leash would be of interest to people. Go figure?

And now in what is obviously a bold act of defiance, some Russians are selling the video. Could this usher in the next cold war?
