It's bad enough that going to the movies these days is like poking your head into a bar in a bad neighborhood: maybe you'll have a good time, or maybe you'll be sorry you ever got out of bed that day.

It's even worse that moviegoers are now subjected to at least fifteen minutes of obnoxious commercials prior to the movie; adding insult to injury is that often these advertisements are for lame television programs.

Could things get any worse?

Well, it looks like they have.

What is Tarot?

[Entertainment]
Tarot (also known as Tarock, Tarokk, Taroky, Taroc, Tarok, Tarocchi and similar names) is a family of trick taking card games played with an enlarged deck of 78 cards which include an extra court card for each of the four regular suits, a permanent trump suit of 21 cards, and a kind of "wild card" called "the Fool" or "Excuse." Although seen primarily by many as a means of fortune telling or divination, the Tarot deck was created in northern Italy during the 15th century for playing card games. The notion of a trump suit which survives in such popular card games as Spades and Hearts originated with the game of Tarot.

The myth of Egyptian origins of Tarot, while once common, has long been debunked by later scholars. There is also no record of Tarot cards being used for the occult or divination prior to the 18th century. The Tarot card readings popular at Renaissance Fairs are a creative license taken with historical fact and should not be viewed as authentic. Contrary to popular belief, conventional playing cards were not derived from Tarot decks and the Fool is unrelated to the Joker of conventional playing cards. The Joker was created in the USA during the 19th century originally for the card game Euchre.

Citing its policy barring ads dealing with "public controversy," the NBC network said on Friday it rejected a TV commercial for a new film documenting the furor over the Dixie Chicks' criticism of President George W. Bush.

The ad features footage of lead singer Natalie Maines declaring during a London concert in March 2003 that the band was "ashamed" to come from the same state -- Texas -- as Bush.

Since when has being ashamed of the president been "controversial?"

Check out the trailer for this interesting documentary here.

The Daily Show is much funnier than traditional newscasts, but a new study from Indiana University says it has the same amount of meat on its bones when it comes to coverage of the news. The brand of news coverage Jon Stewart and the rest of The Daily Show's staff brings to the airwaves is just as substantive as traditional news programs like World News Tonight and the CBS Evening News.

Most of us think the Daily Show is a lot more informative than all mainstream news.

It's almost too ironic to be believed: Germany, the nation most associated with beer drinking, may be in danger of running out of the frothy brew before the World Cup soccer finals roll around. And it's not even the German fans who are causing the drought--it's the English fans drinking the local braureien dry. Even the German bartenders, who see some beer drunk on an average day, are astonished by the capacity of the English.

It can be a heartbreaking situation, or a life-changing one: a woman who has had trouble conceiving seeks in-vitro fertilization. At the cost of thousands of dollars a pop, eggs and sperm are harvested and merged, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the hopeful woman's uterus, in the hope that they will implant and the happy couple will become pregnant.

But is there any way to increase the woman's chances of conceiving? A new study suggests that there may be such a method--clowns.

The computer and gaming community is buzzing about this innovative game which allows people to create their own life forms and have them evolve. All that seems to be missing from the game at this point is requiring the creatures you create to perform sacrifices.

Check out the video and be amazed at how you can take a microscopic creature and evolve him into a space alien with 8 legs and a butt for a face, and eventually build spaceships and abduct aliens.

First Star Trek, and now this?? NBC has taken "Celebrity Cooking Showdown" off its primetime menu. The reality series was originally scheduled to run five consecutive nights beginning April 17, but the peacock shelved "Showdown" on Thursday with two servings still to go. The quick hook comes after three nights of abysmal ratings.

But wait, this was produced by Sean "Puffy" "Puff Daddy" "P-Diddy" Combs. How could it not be good?

Superheroes like Superman and Spider-Man can save mankind from natural disasters, space aliens and evil mutants. But there's one thing they are powerless to stop: Advertisers shilling products within the pages of the comic books they call home.

Both Marvel and DC comics have now signed deals to include product placement within the stories and characters of their comics. Marvel has begun polluting scenes with Nike logos while DC will have superheroes driving cars like the Pontiac Solstice, which some advertising douche claims is analagous to James Bond's Aston Martin. Yea right. Maybe the next Speed Racer will have him competing against Racer X in a Subaru Impreza.

Government Using Computer Games To Improve Foreign Relations?

Apparently having exhausted every other medium to improve its reputation among the rest of the world, the Unites States State Department is now blowing taxpayer money on projects involving the development of massive online computer games designed to promote improved foreign relations and public diplomacy.

The Public Diplomacy and Virtual Worlds project is a research project examining one aspect of new technology and public diplomacy: the role of video games, specifically Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs), in public diplomacy.

Have any of these officials actually ever played online multiplayer games? How much diplomacy do you typically see in Halo, Unreal Tournament, Everquest or World of Warcraft? Maybe they should pick some other industry to infiltrate first that might prove more successful, like maybe the Nazi party or Fred Phelps church?

Kid Rock & Scott Stapp Sex Tape

Two people that one wouldn't expect to see in a sex scene are Kid Rock and former Creed frontman-turned-Jesus, Scott Stapp. Nonetheless, a company named Red Light District, the same who hawked the Paris Hilton sex tape, now plans to release this orgy of music personality mediocrity.

Update: A Florida woman who stars in the Kid Rock-Scott Stapp sex tape has filed a lawsuit against the California company that has recently tried to market the racy video of her 1999 tour bus encounter with the two rock stars. In a complaint filed yesterday in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, the woman, identified only as "Jane Doe," contends she has suffered emotional distress (and had her, um, privacy invaded) as a result of the attempted sale of the video by World Wide Red Light District. While a federal judge last month halted the video's distribution at the request of Rock (real name: Robert Ritchie), segments of the sex tape have appeared online.
